Nasty Surprise
On Friday afternoon, Jesse noticed that the couch was wet. Upon further inspection he noticed that the there were damp spots on the floor. For those of you that don't know, in our condo since we're the bottom unit, the top two units condensation from their air conditioners drain into our drain. We're supposed to check it every now and then, but come on, who has time to be checking it EVERY day. When I was redecorating Lilly's room, I had been over by the couch area collecting toys on Tuesday and didn't notice anything being wet. Jesse and I think the flood happend sometime between Tuesday night and Friday morning.
Jesse opened up the closet door and found that indeed we had a clog. This is the third time we've gotten flooded while living here. I had a magazine basket sitting between the closet door and the couch. I picked up the basket to have more access to the closet. When I lifted up the basket there was mold underneath it and it was growing on the carpet. We were on our way out the door for a primary activity so Jesse called the condo manager to see if they cover the charge of getting the drain unclogged, since it is a common area. The manager called us back, told us who to call and that they would cover the charges.
The plumber came out and noticed the mold, told us that a company that works closely with his was in the area and could come check out the mold for us. We had that company come out and tell us that the carpet and part of the wall would need replacing. He continued telling us that the area around the mold would need to be contained. He came back on Saturday and put up plastic around the area. He also put up a high pressure fan to dry out the wall and carpet. (LOUD!) So needless to say, our front room is a mess. And to top that all off, the mold guy told us that he doesn't want Lilly near the contained area, so we've been locking ourselves in the computer/t.v. room since Saturday. What a pain.
To make it worse, if the condo association doesn't step up and take responsibility for this problem, our front room could be like this for several weeks.
The first picture is of the drain in the closet, the second is the mold on the carpet (it looks like a stain because the plumber stepped in it before we had a chance to take a picture of the actual mold), the third is underneath the basket, and the last is of the contained area in the front room.
